Meet Joene and Mott

I imported a couple of Border Collie pups from Ireland and will be sharing their story and my process of raising pups.  The pups will go on to be working dogs and won’t live in our house.  Regardless, I like all my pups to be socialized, have good manners, and self-control so they can be great house dogs too.

The 3 most important things for a new pup to learn is: their name, coming when called, and how to relax.  So we started with the “name game” where food is paired with their name.  2-3 days of using all their meal food for name pairing works is quick and easy. I then add small distance recalls into the mix.  After a week both Joene and Mott did great however it was clear Jolene needed extra attention as she wants to eye/stalk everything!  Mott, on the other hand, is eager to engage and has his “ears on.”

This blog is a form to discuss puppy raising and training of working Border Collies.  Some ideas pertain to pet dogs and others, not so much.
